Virus and malware removal

Pop-ups, browser hijacks, fake warnings and software you did not install. We clean the machine properly, then set it up so the same thing does not walk straight back in.
The symptoms

Signs you have picked something up.

Not all of these mean an infection, and that matters — a slow computer is far more often a failing drive than a virus. Part of the job is telling the difference.
✓ Pop-ups when no browser is open
✓ Your homepage or search engine keeps changing back
✓ A full-screen warning telling you to call a number
✓ Toolbars or programs you did not install
✓ Suddenly running hot or slow for no obvious reason
✓ Friends getting odd emails or messages from you
The work

Removal is only the first half of the job.

The second half is closing whatever let it in. A machine that gets cleaned and handed straight back is often in the same state within weeks.
01

Find what is actually running

Checked from outside Windows where necessary, because that is the one place modern malware cannot hide from.
02

Remove it, and what reinstalls it

Most infections leave a second piece behind whose only job is to put the first one back. Removing one without the other is why things return.
03

Undo the changes it made

Browser settings, search engines and scheduled tasks put back as they were, and Windows security and updates switched back on and working.
04

Tell you how it got in

This matters more than it sounds. Most infections arrive the same few ways, and knowing which one it was is what stops it happening again.

The one thing removal cannot do. Ransomware is the exception. Where files have been encrypted, removing the malware stops it spreading but does not unlock anything — those are two different problems, and the second one frequently has no solution at any price. We will tell you straight away if that is what you are looking at rather than charging you to find out slowly.

How it works

Remotely where we can, in person where we cannot.

We will tell you which of the two we think it needs before we start.
01

We work out the approach

Remote if the machine will still get online reliably. Collected if it will not, or if the infection warrants working on it properly.
02

We clean it properly

From outside Windows when that is what the job needs, so nothing gets a chance to hide.
03

We close the way in

And tell you what it was, so the same route does not stay open.
What it costs

No trip means no fee at all.

Nothing is done and nothing is charged until you have seen the price and agreed to it.

Work done remotely involves no trip, so there is no fee at all.

Where the machine has to be collected, pickup & delivery is a flat $19.99. That covers taking it away and bringing it back, the same anywhere in our service area. It is held on a card beforehand rather than charged, and you pay it along with the service when we hand the machine back — by card or cash. If no work goes ahead, the $19.99 is all you pay.

Or drop it off and collect it yourself — then there is no fee, and no card hold either. We will arrange the spot when we schedule.

Virus and malware removal starts at $99.99. That covers getting the machine clean, and switching Windows’ own security back on and configured properly.

Where we think paid antivirus software would genuinely help on top of that, we will recommend it and price it separately. It is a recommendation, not a condition of the work.

Parts, licenses, and third-party services are priced separately when applicable.

No fix, no fee.

If we cannot get the machine clean, you do not pay for the attempt.
Straight answers

"I ran a scan and it said clean."

This is the most common thing we hear, and there is a straightforward reason for it. Antivirus software runs inside Windows, and a lot of modern malware is built specifically to hide from software running inside Windows — including by switching the antivirus off quietly and leaving the icon in place.

A scan that comes back clean on an infected machine is normal, not reassuring. We check from outside the running system, which is what makes the difference.
